Kusadasi

Kusadasi is a thriving resort on the Aegean coastline of Turkey. It is conveniently situated about 60 miles south of Izmir, the third largest city of Turkey with the closest airport to the town. One of the main ports of call for cruise-liners on the Aegean coastline of Turkey, Kusadasi is actually named after a small islet with a medieval castle on it, "the Pigeon Island". Ephesus, the most impressive Greco-roman archeological site in the country with the ruins of also one of the Seven Wonders of the world (the Temple of Artemis), can be reached by car in around half an hour and receives over a million visitors each year. It is also possible to visit the House of The Virgin Mary where there is now a small chapel recognized as a pilgrimage site.

Along with all its historical attractions, Kusadasi also boasts of several famous sandy beaches all having easy access from the town centre and also a national park where secluded beaches join hills covered in pine forests. You can even enjoy the healing powers of hot springs and a thermal bath in Davutlar which is a more laid back and quiet town with views over the Aegean and the Greek island of Samos. The popularity of the resort does not only come from its unique beauty and environment,  but also its typical old town by the harbour where visitors can spend many hours walking around in the tiny shopping arcades in the cool of the old stone houses. There is an ample choice of good restaurants and cafes on the waterfront at sunset and they are all frequented by locals and tourists alike. A few hours after sunset, street upon street of small bars and pubs come alive with music and dancing in the height of the summer season.
