Nature

The sand dunes of "Guardamar del Segura" are a conservation area and they boast fauna unique to this environment. Near Guardamar is the large salt lake of "La Mata", a shallow wonder of nature which contains  rare wildlife and is now protected as part of a national park, where plants and creatures have evolved so that they can live in a high saline environment. This parkland is home to many varieties of birds such as long legged cranes, various species of duck, pink flamingos and many more. Some of the species to be found here have even developed their own protective system to cope with the warm water as the lake evaporates.

An even larger salt lake is at Torrevieja (although both lagoons are connected by a man-made canal). This lake is the centre of the largest production of salt in Europe destined for countries from Scandinavia to Japan. It also has its own protected eco-system and lying between the two lakes and the Mediterranean,  this area makes a perfect climate for your Spanish home.

A very different aspect of Spain's nature is offshore at the small historical island of Tabarca on which there is a protected underwater parkland. You can visit this underwater wonderland by obtaining a permit and going scuba diving or by taking the glass bottom boat from Santa Pola and enjoying a part of nature which has come back from the brink of extinction.
