Surfing Beaches

Imperial Beach

Known as "IB," this wide, sandy beach is popular with area residents. Like many beaches in California,  Imperial Beach is great for swimming, surfing and land activities.

Every July the pier area is host to a very special event, the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition. Take a visit and see the most amazing and bizarre sandcastles around!

Sunset Cliffs
Access is via steep cliffside trails; there are steps in some areas. Strong waves make this a favourite with surfers, fishermen and divers. Swimming is discouraged, but there are beautiful sunset views.

Ocean Beach

Known as "OB" by locals, this family-orientated beach has swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, volleyball and Frisbee areas and restrooms. Lifeguards are on duty and there is even an area north of the jetty where dogs are allowed to run free.

Pacific Beach

Known locally as "PB," this is a perfect spot for swimming, surfing, and fishing right off the Crystal Pier.

Tourmaline Surf Park
This small, scenic beach is a favourite with surfers and divers. Swimming, however, is not allowed.
