The Troodos Mountain range is located on the approach to Mount Olympus and is within easy reach of Limassol. At 1,952 metres, it is the highest peak in Cyprus and offers a refreshing sanctuary from the heat. For those who enjoy peaceful walks in the pine forests or sports such as skiing and horse riding, this is the perfect haven.
The mountain resorts are famous for the stunning monasteries and churches and are a popular tourist attraction. They were built away from the once threatened coastline and now today the area is a great centre for Byzantine art. Also popular are the picturesque mountain villages on the slopes of the hills, many of which are famous for their produce. Prodromos is the highest village on the island and is said to grow the best apples with the village of Pedoulas being famous for its cherries. Wine, mineral water and rose water are produced in this area and are sold locally and exported.
This really is a quite stunning and tranquil area of the island that must be visited.
