Shopping

There are many things to do whilst in Cyprus and shopping surely has to be one of them. With the designer shops along the parade and the mixture of local shops, there really is a shop to suit everyone's taste.

Typically, during the winter (1st Novembr - 31st March) they open at 09.00 and close in accordance with local law at 19.00, except on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays when they close at 14.00, 20.00 and 15.00, respectively. Sunday is not a working day in Cyprus.

During the summer (1st April - 31st October), the shops open at 09.00 and close at 20.30, except once again on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when they close two hours later than the winter time. From June - August, the afternoon rest measure applies and the shops are closed between 13.00 and 15.00. Sunday is not a working day in the summer either.

It should be noted that although the legislation provides for the hours of business stated above, the smaller local shops generally do not keep to the exact working hours and often close an hour earlier then stated. All urban areas have kiosks and local stores that are open longer than the shops in the area, in most cases 24 hours a day.

An order of the Minister for Labour and Social Insurance designates tourism areas and in those areas the shops adhere to the tourism system of opening hours which allows for longer opening hours all through the week and on Sundays.
