Vele populaire musea in San Diego, zoals de musea van kunst, natuur, mens en fotografie bevinden zich in Balboa Park. In La Jolla en in de binnenstad van Santa Fe ligt het museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (MCASD) in een gebouw met zicht op zee. In het Columbia district worden tentoonstellingen gegeven van historische schepen, terwijl in het San Diego museum van vliegdekschepen oa. het USS Midway Vliegdekschip tentoongesteld wordt.
In San Diego is er een groeiende interesse in kunst. Er zijn tentoonstellingen over kunst en design in “Kettner Nights” in het ‘Kunst & Ontwerpdistrict van Klein Italië’ en in vele detailhandels en galerijen op vrijdagavonden. “Ray at Night” in het Noordpark heeft verscheidene kleinschalige kunstgalerijen op de tweede zaterdag van iedere maand. La Jolla en Solana Beach hebben bovendien ook verscheidene kunstgalerijen in hun gebied.
De Symfonie San Diego in ‘Symphony Towers’ valt onder het bestuur van Jahia Ling en treedt regelmatig op. De Opera van San Diego in ‘Civic Center Plaza’ werd tot de top tien van de beste operagezelschappen in de Verenigde Staten gerekend. Het oude Globe Theater in Balboa Park produceert jaarlijks ongeveer 15 toneelstukken en musicals.
Het toerisme heeft een grote invloed op de cultuur van de stad, vermits San Diego vele toeristische trekpleisters heeft, zoals Sea World van San Diego, het Belmont pretpark, de San Diego Zoo, het Dierenpark van San Diego en vlakbij Legoland. De Spaanse invloed in San Diego kan men zien in de vele historische sites verspreid over de hele stad, zoals de Spaanse missiehuizen en Balboa Park. De keuken in San Diego is divers en er is een overvloed aan Californische pizza’s bereid in houten ovens en Mexicaanse en Oosterse Aziatische Keuken. Jaarlijkse evenementen in San Diego zijn Comic-con, San Diego/ Del Mar Beurs en de Oost-Aziatische keuken.
San Diego is altijd de bron geweest voor de surf- en skateboard cultuur. Hier vindt u dan ook de hoofdkantoren terug van een aantal van de grootste namen in deze industrie zoals Sector 9 Skateboards, Transworld Media en Rusty Surfboards. Sommige zeer bekende plaatsen zijn Swamis Beach en Windansea. De streek heeft zelfs een eigen keten surfwinkels, nl. Sun Diego. Een aantal professionele surfers, zoals Rob Machado en Taylor Knox, evenals wereldberoemde skateboarder Tony Hawk en snowboarder Shaun White hebben hun thuis in San Diego.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas is the city of bright lights, wedding chapels and casinos. Known to be one of the most entertaining cities in the world there is a lot more to be experienced in Las Vegas than just gambling.
The major attractions are often the casinos and Las Vegas obviously does not disappoint. The most famous of these hotels and casinos are found on The Strip spreading out towards the Downtown areas and Fremont Street. Surprisingly to most people Las Vegas has 85 parks, 10 of which are dog parks and 9 are skate parks. There is also a a Wetlands Park and a Preservation and Educational Park.
Wildlife feature in Las Vegas with a Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and a Zoo also within the city centre, there are also three Gardens; Ethel M's Botanical Gardens, Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and The Gardens at the Las Vegas Spring Preserve.
Las Vegas is also home to a philharmonic orchestra and a ballet troupe alongside its live theatrical shows, dance acts and magicians. The growing population of the city has opened the door to new cultural and musical events. Springtime events such as jazz festivals and folkdance festivals regularly take place within the city throughout April and May and on the first Friday of every month there is a 'First Friday' celebration which exhibits local artists and musicians pieces in the 'Arts District' region of Downtown.
With nineteen musuems and seven libraries their is also something for those chasing the intellectual pursuits in life and if sport is what you are interested in then you have the options of boating, golf, hiking and rock climbing in the national parks nearby. Las Vegas itself has around 60 golf courses.
Five star hotels such as the Venetian and the Bellagio offer many cultural events right on The Strip including high class acrobatic acts and art museums. In Las Vegas there is definately something for everyone.
